P&G, the multinational consumer goods corporation, recently announced that it has acquired This is L., a startup retailer of period products and prophylactics. The acquisition is mainly aimed at meeting the rising demand for natural or organic period products.

This is L. is a leading natural feminine hygiene product brand based in the U.S. that started out as a distributing service for condoms in San Francisco and New York in 2015 but quickly expanded into the arena of feminine hygiene products, as reported by TechCrunch.

L.’s portfolio includes high quality pads, tampons, wipes and liners made from organic cotton. For every L. product purchased, a donation is made to improve product accessibility to girls and women in need in the U.S. and across the world.

Jennifer Davis, President, Global Feminine Care, P&G has been reported to say that the acquisition complements its Tampax and Always portfolio. She added that the union will be a greater force for doing good while forwarding the commitment of both the companies who advocate for girls’ confidence and serve more women.

For the record, L. has grown rapidly with their products being available in over 5,000 stores across the U.S. L. also conducts a donation program in which it is endeavoring to provide access to 250 million products. The company works to increase local access to products by forming partnerships to provide tools that are not only useful in production of female hygiene products but also work towards driving women’s entrepreneurship.

Talia Frenkel, CEO, This Is L., has been reported to say that the company’s growth has enabled it to support women in more than 20 countries. She added that L.’s support ranges from partnering with organizations to help them provide period products to South Dakota Native communities and reaches all the way across the world to providing a women-led business in Tamil Nadu with machines that make pads. Frenkel said that pairing L.’s purpose with P&G’s resources, scale and expertise provides an excellent opportunity to support a more balanced world.
